Final edit

Youtube cropped the first few seconds off for some reason, but here is the first draft of the final animation. May need to turn the volume up depending on where you are ;-)

Final run - audio effects

With most of my scenes shot, I have began to add audio effects. I feel the animation on its own is rather flat without it. Its not quite perfect yet, however finding suitable sounds is difficult in itself.

University scenes - final run

I borrowed the photography studio for the day, and managed to shoot the majority of the scenes for the battle and the build up to the battle. At this point I had shot the majority of the scenes for the final animation, however some needed reshooting and I had to do the outdoor scenes (it's been rainy recently).

Flat scenes - final run

Having made a few practice stop motions, and planning out the final product on paper I began shooting some scenes for the final animation. These were shot in my flat one weekend and I compiled the results in the video below.

Besides just having a battle, I decided to expand it further, bringing a sense of storyline and drama to it. Using a Digital SLR on Manual focus I also experimented with changing focal length.

Test 3

Following feedback, I decided to continue the idea of a battle between Magma and Online retail, however it was suggested I look at alternative ways of depicting it. One idea was using 3d objects.

With this in mind I went away and produced another quick test, while it was still stop motion I changed from 2d cutouts on a wall to actual 3d objects representing both 'sides' - a laptop representing online shops, and a book representing Magma.

Both opponents will use weapons relevant to their respective 'faction', in this example I've used a carrier bag for the book attacking the computer.

Title sequence

As well as the battle, I also produced a quick animation sequence for the magma logo, using cut out hand drawn letters based on the actual magma logo. Unfortunately youtube have cropped the ending off but this was the result;

Initial idea for animation

Having decided on the web browser idea for the shop front design, I looked at ways of expanding this idea across other areas of the project. Having worked on animation during the second year, I decided I wished to explore this area further through this brief.

The idea I came up with was to have a animated battle between Magma and online retailers. Initially I was thinking filming a fight between two people dressed up in crudely made costumes, however decided the risks of someone getting injured were too great.

I then looked at using card cutouts on a wall, and decided to make a quick test run on my bedroom wall to see how this would turn out. This video can be seen at the following link;
